i find it infuriating how overlooked and underrated this movie was. eh, actually, infuriating is a really strong word. more like…a bit irritating. i think it just conflicted with people’s expectations too much. it certainly did with mine, but i was really pleasantly surprised at how innovative it was and how much thought was generated into the script. i expected something that would be more universally embraceable, something kids would enjoy, but if i were nine years old and watching this movie i would’ve been sedated and confused by it. it’s not a children’s movie at all, it’s a movie for adults about childhood. and it’s beautifully done.
